Description

I thought I'd have a go at the "Draw This Again!" meme with the prologue opener for Arkaenalan since I really like the one-year improvement between the 2011 and 2012 version!

v.s

I have the wonderful ~JCStitches to thank for her feedback on the old version, which pointed out a couple things that needed to be reworked. It helped me become conscious of the errors I started to see in the old version, which I used to be proud of, but now cringe at all of its flaws!

- I gave the new piece a much warmer color scheme to invoke both a strong sense of danger (muddy red) and imply the subtle tenderness of sorts (faint gold/yellow) amongst the three characters.

- My mock-screenshot art style improved and now looks a lot more fluid, particularly with finer details for the feathers on the Eudaemon, varying their sizes and weight instead of being compressed against the body like a flat pattern. I minimized the need to draw the rachis on the feathers unless they were large enough.

- I made sure that the direction of the wind and Eudaemon’s movement was well-reflected their hair, feathers, fur, the strings/cords tied onto the spears, and the blood spills. The old version was weak in this department and I'm glad Jen pointed it!

- I drew some blood dripping from the wounds instead of just making red patches from texture brushes to create a more believable effect. Can’t let texture brushes do all the work! Sometimes, you have to pull the extra mile, plus drawing blood can be pretty fun. Drawing bloody vent art can have that effect!

- The angle/view of the scene changed slightly and the Eudaemon's anatomy and pose were altered, since it was rather difficult to get a better sense of their scale and relationship with the setting. Another flaw in the old version Jen poked at! Empy and Whidbey shrank down for the new version, but maybe that helped with emphasizing the Eudaemon's size.

I wanted to share this because it's the best example I have so far of how much a little bit of critique and feedback can help you improve both your strengths and fight your weaknesses.

Thanks for looking and reading!
